Single-label Domain Names and Exchange Server 2007 SP1

If you are experiencing problems in upgrade your environment to SP1 because you have a single-label domain level name you must read this and send your information to Exchange team.

If you attempt to install Exchange 2007 SP1 into an Active Directory forest containing a single-label domain name (e.g. “Contoso” instead of “Contoso.com”), you’ll get this error message:

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 setup cannot continue because this computer belongs to a domain that has a single-labeled DNS name. DNS domain name: XYZ

As the Exchange 2007 SP1 release notesstate:

“Exchange 2007 is not supported in environments that use single-label DNS names. Single-label DNS names are DNS names that do not contain a suffix such as .com, .corp, .net, or .org. Exchange 2007 SP1 Setup performs a prerequisite check and will not continue if your environment includes single-label DNS names. For more information about single-label DNS names, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 300684, Information about configuring Windows for domains with single-label DNS names“.

Public Folder Replication Troubleshooting - Part 4: Exchange Server 2007 tips

A msexchangeteam.com post explaining how to use the same procedure used previously in Exchange Server 2003 to troubleshoot PF replication but in this new post using the Exchange Server 2007 tools.

Two years ago, I posted a three-part series on troubleshooting public folder replication. Part 1discussed the replication of new data, Part 2discussed the replication of existing data, and Part 3discussed the replica deletion process and some common problems we saw with Exchange 2003. With this post, I want to update the series for Exchange 2007.

In Exchange 2007, public folder replication works basically the same way it always has. The troubleshooting steps in the first three parts of the series all still apply. However, the admin tools have changed and the common problems we see with Exchange 2007 are a little different, so that’s what I want to cover here.

Deploying CCR on Windows Server 2008 by Command-Line Only

I’ve just read a nice post explaining how to deploy a CCR on Windows 2008 by command line.

With the release of Exchange 2007 SP1, you can deploy cluster continuous replication (CCR) on Windows Server 2008, and enjoy the benefits of Windows 2008 failover cluster improvements. But did you know the deployment of CCR on Windows 2008, including the formation and configuration of the cluster, can be done via the command-line, without using any graphical user interface (GUI) interfaces, such as the Failover Cluster Management tool, or the Exchange 2007 SP1 Setup Wizard. Here’s a series of commented commands you can use to do the deployment. You can even add the commands into a script, and automate the deployment.

Supportability for multiple OWA/ Exchange Web Sites on Client Access Servers in Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1

Customers frequently ask Exchange Customer Support Services (CSS) engineers how Exchange Server organizations can be managed using multiple Web sites for Exchange Server-related virtual directories. This is often used for segmentation purposes or for access by certain applications, apart from Web users.

Microsoft Hosted Messaging and Collaboration (HMC) solutions are available for customers with a need to manage multiple Exchange “organizations” from the same platform. However, many customers simply wish to use existing hardware and software without using an HMC solution.
