Mobile Operator Guide to MSFP

I still remember when the Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003 was announced, back in 2005. One of the more exciting features of SP2 was Direct Push e-mail, but the service pack by itself was not enough. Only devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 AND the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) could deliver this new functionality.

I couldn’t help myself feeling a little bit nostalgic with the recent release of Mobile Operator Guide to Windows Mobile 5.0 with MSFP.

Overview
This paper discusses MSFP for windows Mobile 5.0, including how the Direct Push technology works, the impact of changing it’s settings, recommended values, and how to configure the device.

The Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) is a software upgrade for Windows Mobile 5.0-based devices that works with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2.

Enterprise customers can use their existing Exchange Server 2003 SP2, reducing the need for additional third-party server products and client access license fees.

To use MSFP successfully, you should understand:

  • MSFP Features
  • How the Direct Push Technology Works
  • Requirements and Best Practices for Using MSFP
  • How to Configure the Device
