Outlook 2007 SDK: MAPI Reference [February 2009]

The Outlook 2007 SDK: MAPI Reference is available to download.

Brief Description
The Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Messaging API (MAPI) Reference provides the messaging architecture for Office Outlook 2007.

Overview
The Outlook 2007 MAPI Reference describes how to create Outlook 2007 items by using MAPI that is based on the Component Object Model (COM) rather than the Outlook object model. MAPI for Outlook 2007 provides a set of classes, interfaces, functions, and other data types to facilitate the development of Outlook 2007 messaging applications. Applications and transports use MAPI to manipulate e-mail data, to create e-mail messages and the folders to store them in, and to support notifications of changes to existing MAPI-related data.

Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 v6.5.8069.0

Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 version 6.5.8069.0 was recently released.

Brief Description
Starting with Exchange 2007, neither the Messaging API (MAPI) client libraries nor CDO 1.2.1 are provided as a part of the base product installation. As a result, there is functionality missing that many applications depend on. Microsoft Exchange MAPI and CDO 1.2.1 provide access to these APIs

Overview
The Messaging API is a COM-like API that provides access to the contents of messaging stores. CDO 1.2.1 (Collaboration Data Objects, version 1.2.1) is a package providing access to Outlook-compatible objects through a COM-based API. Using either CDO or MAPI, a program can connect to a MAPI store, and then perform operations against that store. Starting with Exchange 2007, Microsoft will distribute the MAPI client libraries and CDO 1.2.1 as a Web download.

Additional Information
New in this version:
- This version (The MSI package) is now compatible with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. The older version (The EXE package) is being temporarily provided until August 15, 2008 as a service to customers of ISVs that have not completed their validation process on the new package. Note also that this web release follows the Microsoft Lifecycle policy of Exchange Server 2003, which goes into Extended Support in April 2009. It is recommended that new Exchange development leverage Exchange Web Services, the Outlook Object Model, or the Outlook MAPI Client Library.
