Firewall Timeouts and Direct Push

The Exchange team just posted a lengthy article about configuring Firewalls to prevent timeouts when using Direct Push, a new and popular way of delivering mail to mobile devices.

Even if you do not use Direct Push, the article is a pretty good primer on web connectivity, Firewall and DoS attacks.

How to use a VBScript to write proxy addresses to an Ldifde.exe-compatible import file in Exchange Server 2003

The RUS sets e-mail addresses automatically. So basically there is not much to backup there. But what about the other e-mail addresses, the ones that are manually set? Microsoft posted a nice script doing just that, so you can backup and restore (using the handy Ldifde utility) all your e-mail addresses, including manual ones. It look very much a like the one that I wrote a while back (one of my first articles), but with LDIF compatibiliy.

Exchange 2007 Beta Wiki Ninja

Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.

Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.

The most famous of the Wikis is Wikipdia, which has become as common as google for finding information. In fact, lots of Google search bring up a Wikipedia entry.

And now…The Exchange 2007 Beta Wiki, better than a newsgroup, the perfect place to ask a question or donate information on this new and exciting product.

Right now there is not a whole lot of information, but this will probably fill up by the next release.

Pre-register for WSUS 3.0 Beta 2

It’s Beta time again, as Microsoft rolls another Beta 2, this time of its free central patch management product, Windows Server Update Services. As all Microsoft products, including Exchange, will now have a similar installation and update process, WSUS 3.0 will probably be more efficient in updating, say, Exchange 2007 and probably, Forefront.

Pre-register for it here:

Microsoft Solution for Windows-based Hosting v 4.0

Anyone who has tried (and believe me I tried) to implement hosting with Microsoft products knows that this can be a very difficult task. Microsoft has its own solution and guidelines for the hosting. Version 4 is now out, full of updates and features. Even if you’re not into the ASP business, some of the scripts you might find usefull for other things.

Podcasting Exchange

Almost everytime I post something about upcoming webcasts I hear some grumbling. Registering is too difficult, broadcast time is of the chart for some people, why can’t the thing just be downloaded, etc…

Now Microsoft is trying to make things easier for busy people on the go with Exchange Technet podcasts in MP3 and WMA format.

Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 Beta 2 is Released

Are you happily toying with Exchange 2007 Beta 2? Now you can join the next version of MOM, now with a a new name because it will join the System Center family, along with SMS and other products.

This makes me wonder: How come Exchange did not get a new Office System name? Or perhaps Sharepoint Messaging server? I know that Exchange is a real strong brand name, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a new name as well, sometimes in the not too distant future.
