First Exchange 2007 impressions
I am going to write an article soon about an actual Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 migration.
My first impression of Exchange 2007 - it still half baked in terms of GUI and some functionality. Not as bad as Exchange 2000 was, but still some things are missing. A lot of things can be done only via scripting or CLI (basically, a command prompt) which is really annoying and unlike Microsoft. I predict that a lot of these fatures will find themselves inĀ GUI form when SP1 is released or via external tools.
More on this in my article when it is posted.

I honestly like the fact that Microsoft is joining the real world with CLI. It is far more powerful, faster and all the big boys (*nix) use it. Just try scripting with GUI, not possible!

I am not very proficient with scripting yet but I think this will be a plus in the end.

having a CLI interface for a function or operation is a good practice and very welcome, but to not bother having a GUI for it as well is just plain lazy and like the post says - quite unlike microsoft…

Indeed, — the big boys appreciate ease of use as much as the little guys. If there’s an easy way to do something in the GUI, beleive me, the big boys use it. While its nice to have the CLI available, its not for ease of use and actually reduces the overall security of the product, because its very VERY common to CLI errors and not know how to get out of them. We’re not going to even look at Exch2007 until they come up with a fully baked user interface. If I wanted to use Linux, I would.
